Message from Chair of the Board, Rick Petrella

Dear families,

As we say goodbye to this challenging school year, I look back with great appreciation for the support and patience displayed by our students, families, and community. Your commitment to Catholic education and to the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board has allowed us to overcome the many challenges the pandemic presented and allowed our students to continue to move forward on their academic and spiritual journey.

The COVID-19 pandemic, and direction from the Ministry of Education, required the Board to implement many changes that families had to adapt to, with little notice. We understand how difficult that was and want to thank all of you. I too watched my child move from in-person learning, to online, and back again. This was not easy to navigate, and I admire how our families simply found a way to make it work. Thank you so much for all that you did during this time.

September 2021 continues to bring a degree of uncertainty as we wait for information from the Ministry of Education, Ontario Public Health, and our two local public health units in respect to the use of personal protective equipment and vaccination protocols which will be in place for school opening. At this time, we are also unsure of what events like fall sports and extra curricular activities will look like. We remain committed to communicating with families and staff as soon as we receive new information that helps formulate our reopening plan.

The BHNCDSB is committed to working hard and collaborating with all our partners to ensure that the September reopening will be as safe as possible for all our staff and students and are continuing to fund capitol improvement projects such as improvements to the ventilation systems in our schools. As well, our district made the decision to forgo a hybrid-learning model as we feel we are best supporting all students by offering the best learning experiences possible through either virtual or in-person learning environments.

A special thank you to all families, staff, and Catholic education partners for your ongoing support, tireless efforts, and incredible perseverance over the last year. When we stand together, and support each other, our publicly funded Catholic education system thrives.

On behalf of the Trustees of the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, I wish you and your family a safe and restful summer.

God bless,

Rick Petrella, Chair of the Board
