Transitioning to high school during a pandemic? No worries… we’ve got you!

Secondary School registration and Open Houses will happen in person this year, with a few twists following Covid protocols.

In person, open information sessions will be hosted this year at all secondary schools in January 2022. To attend these information sessions, parents and students must register their visit online to secure a time slot. Online registration sign-up and time slots will be available through each secondary school’s website.

Time slots are limited to 20 participates each. To keep the number of visitors to our schools to a minimum and promote physical distancing, we kindly request that only one parent/guardian accompany their child(ren) to the information session.

Proof of vaccination will not be required; however, all participants must conduct a self screening checklist upon arrival at the school. PPE must be worn; physical distancing is always encouraged.

We recognize the importance of providing potential students a chance to visit and see inside the schools, what department areas look like, and gain information about courses and selections as well as being able to meet staff who will support them along their secondary school journey. Registration forms and Fact Sheets on highlights of the school community will be available for pick up at the in-person Open Houses and can also be found online on the individual school websites noted below, and on our BHNCDSB website.

When the district sent out a survey last year, asking Grade 8 students and families if they had any questions about the transition to high school, the replies received made it evident that there is great value in offering Grade 8 Registration and Open House events. Students want to see the school and understand how they will find their locker; how to select courses; what de-streaming is; what sports and extra-curriculars are there? In addition, students and families want to know who they can ask for help with for registration? The Open Houses and Registration packages help answer all these important questions.
